Bayelsa Cargo Airport Project Almost Completed

Bayelsa State Government says it is putting finishing touches to its N90 billion Cargo International Airport project which has reached 95 per cent completion.

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa of Friday that the airport would be inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari on Aug. 27, 2018.

Iworiso-Markson said that the airport was one of the legacy projects that would change the economic fortunes of the state and bring about prosperity for the people.

According to him, the airport, when operational, will create “massive” job opportunities for Bayelsa people and make the state a leading investment destination as well as a hub for business.

‘’There will be more business opportunities, more investment opportunities and more revenue will accrue to the state.

“It is indeed a dream come true for us as a government. We are so excited about this project because of the massive benefits the state and our people will derive from it.”


Economist: Nigeria Air has immense economic potential for Nigeria

The newly unveiled National Carrier, Nigeria Air, has the potential to boost the nation’s economy if professionally managed, expert says.

Prof. Hassan Oaikhenan of the Economics and Statistics Department, University of Benin, said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday.

Oaikhenan advised the Federal Government to ensure that structures were put in place to guarantee the sustainability of the new National Carrier.

NAN recalls that the Federal Government on July 18, at the Farnborough International Air show in London unveiled a new National Carrier known as “Nigeria Air”.

The announcement was coming 15 years after the liquidation of Nigeria Airways.

According to the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, the National Carrier is Private sector driven. It is a business, and not a social service.

“Government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. The investors will have full responsibility for this.


FG Unveils Nigeria Air as New National Airline

The federal government through the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, Wednesday revealed the branding and livery for new national flag carrier, Nigeria Air, due to be launched at the end of this year.

Sirika disclosed this at a press conference at the Farnborough Air Show in London, UK.

Sirika, in a statement by the Ministry’s Deputy Director, Media & Public Affairs, Mr. James Odaudu, in Abuja, noted that: “The ‘unveiling’ was attended by a cross section of the international press, Nigerian dignitaries, stakeholders, aircraft manufacturers, prospective investors and a Nigerian government delegation including S. Zakari, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation; Senator Adamu Aliero, Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation; and Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Chairperson, House Committee on Aviation, and included a short film showing an aircraft with the new Nigeria Air livery.

According to him, “I am very pleased to tell you that we are finally on track to launching a new national flag carrier for our country: Nigeria Air.

“We are all fully committed to fulfilling the campaign promise made by our President, Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

We are aiming to launch Nigeria Air by the end of this year.” He said: “Following extensive market research, the branding of our new airline, Nigeria Air, demonstrates a true flag carrier of our nation, soaring through the skies in the shape of our nation’s eagle.”
